How prayer drives PR success

How prayer drives PR success

I come from at least 3 generations of dreamers on my mum’s side. My grandma was a dreamer, mum is and so am I in that our dreams tend to be meaningful and/or prophetic.

In November 2016, I went to bed one Saturday night and woke up on Sunday to the sound of my friend and “big brother,” Daryl, calling me. As soon as he asked how I was, I said “I think God wants me to start a blog”.

I don’t remember all the details of the dream now, but I remember that I felt that I should be interviewing other Christian women to get their views on their favourite women of the Bible and so on in order to dismantle traditional norms around womanhood. Why? Because I saw a Human’s of New York style platform in my dream very vividly and I remembered every detail at the time- which is usually a sign that my dream means something or is about to come true.

Voicing that out loud is what led me to actually beginning the process of launching my platform because Daryl, also being spiritual’s, response was “Well, I don’t know why you’re still on the phone to me. Get started and don’t call me back unless you’ve got results”. Knowing that he was deadly serious and that he’d cuss me out if I didn’t make a move, I got to work.

Lessons from Jesus' Donkey on how to handle the weight of glory on your life

Lessons from Jesus' Donkey on how to handle the weight of glory on your life

Matthew 21:1-9 tells the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey just before His death. In verse 8-9, we are told that when the people Jerusalem saw Him they:

“spread their clothes on the road… cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. [They also] cried out, saying: ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!’”

The branches that the people used were from palm trees- hence the reason why we celebrate this day as “Palm Sunday”.

Often, when I’ve heard this story told from the point of view of the donkey, one of the things that’s brought up is how lucky she was to have carried Jesus (yes, according to Matthew 21:2, the donkey was female).

But, if I’m honest, when I read it I started thinking about the fact that:

  • As much as carrying Jesus could have been considered the epitome of her donkey career- He was still a weight

  • Her greatest success was also a great burden and so-

  • It costs to have a calling on your life

I was also able to extract 5 lessons that she teaches us, as modern women, about how to handle this effectively. I shared all of this and more on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

Lessons from Keturah on how to master your craft

Lessons from Keturah on how to master your craft

Did you know that Abraham married another woman after Sarah’s death? Well, according to Genesis 25, her name was Keturah and she went on to have 6 more children for him (aside from Ishmael and Isaac)!

Upon reflecting on both women, though, it seems to me that Abraham’s time with Sarah and Keturah are indicative of two completely different seasons in his life:

  • Keturah= Walking in (the manifestation of) God’s promise; abundance and overflow

  • Sarah= the process that it took to lay hold of that process- a process that involved challenges to faith, work and maturation.

And can I be really transparent with you, lovely? I very much felt like I was in the Sarah phase this week.

This is how I realised that not only are these 2 women symbolic of 2 different seasons in Abraham’s life, they are also symbolic of the path to purpose and what it ultimately takes to master your craft. I elaborated on this and more on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

Lessons from Abigail on how to let God fight your battles

Lessons from Abigail on how to let God fight your battles

So, last week we began talking about the lessons that Sarah teaches us about how to let God fight our battles. During that conversation, I talked a lot about:

  • God's role as our avenger

  • His willingness and ability to fight for us.

  • How He uses our battles for our ultimate good and so on

What I didn't do a lot of talking about, however, is our role in all of this.

Yes, lovely!

Although it's God's job to avenge us and fight our battles, this does not mean that we get to rest on our laurels and chill.

Oh no, as Hebrews 12:15 warns us, when someone hurts us "roots of bitterness" can "spring up," "cause trouble" and "defile" us. It is therefore our responsibility to do everything we can to ensure that, whilst God is fighting our battles, we are making a conscious decision to become better rather than bitter. As such, I did a follow-up message to last week's one explaining the exact steps that we must take to make this happen according to Abigail (in 1st Samuel 25).

I also talked about:

  • The why, how and when of praying for our enemies (even though it's hard and we don't want to!)

  • The common myth/misconception of "forgive and forget" and what to do instead

  • And more- all of which I shared on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

Lessons from Sarah on how to let God fight your battles

Lessons from Sarah on how to let God fight your battles

One of my favourite Nelson Mandela quotes is:

"You must believe in the dark what God showed you in the light"

This is because a lot of the time, although a call to purpose can feel quite motivating, inspirational and even euphoric in the moment- to use another quote:

"The night is dark and full of terrors".

No, this is not just an excuse to quote Game of Thrones (one of my favourite TV shows) I'm going somewhere with this!

I say that to say, the path to purpose is an uphill journey (which can feel like a dark night) and- as with any ascension- we should expect oppositional forces (or terrors) along the way.

The Mandela quote is important, then, because it can be very tempting to get distracted, side-tracked or even want to give up when the initial light (motivation, inspiration and faith) surrounding God's call to purpose is being overshadowed by such darkness. This is especially true when that opposition is taking the shape of criticism, slander or a lack of support from loved ones because our distraction etc can come in the form of wanting to defend ourselves. However, as the events of Sarah's life shows us in Genesis 12, we don't need to do that because God is willing and able to fight for us.

As such, I discussed what we can glean from Sarah regarding:

  • How to let God fight for you so that you can continue to thrive in purpose (no matter the opposition)

  • How God uses these dark periods for our ultimate good

  • And more- all of which I shared on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

See? I told you I was going somewhere! Lol
