How to leverage your current content for PR success

How to leverage your current content for PR success

I always say that when I was a little girl I was a hybrid between girly girl and tomboy. Like on one hand, I adored Disney, dressing up and playing with my Barbies. Yet on the other hand, I loved WWE wrestling, got hurt climbing things or jumping off them all the time and adored superhero cartoons like Spiderman, Xmen and more.

Not much has changed as an adult either and I love that Disney+ literally allows me to satisfy both sides of me. Like, all my favourite Disney princesses and Marvel movies all in the same place? Yes please!

My favourite thing about both types of movies is seeing how the heroes in these stories came to be (their origin stories). Do you know who else loves a good origin story? Podcast, radio and conference hosts. So much so that "how did you first get started in business?" (or a variation of it) is always asked in interviews.

If you're anything like me, your business started as something that you did naturally for yourself that people:

  • Saw that you had a talent for

  • Hated doing/could not do for themselves

  • Were willing to pay you to do for them or coach them through so that they could learn to do it too

and then it just grew and evolved from there.

Well the same is true for PR, sis…

4 mistakes people make when getting started with PR

4 mistakes people make when getting started with PR

I love quotes....so much so that I have a whole notes section dedicated to them, which I update every time I come across a new one that inspires me. Although the most recent update was "Boundaries are not about saying no to other people. Boundaries are about saying yes to yourself" (Rachel Rodgers), some of my favourites are about success e.g.:

  • "Success is when preparation meets opportunity"

  • "Success leaves clues"

One that was recently dropped into my spirit is: "success requires systems" and when I shared it via social media this week, I added in the caption "PR is no different". So, with that in mind, I wanted to share 4 reasons why that's true by discussing mistakes that people make when getting started with PR and what systems you can put in place to avoid them. For example:

2 common brand clarity mistakes (and how to avoid them)

2 common brand clarity mistakes (and how to avoid them)

When we hear the word "branding" it can be tempting to reduce it down to things like logos and colours but it's much more than that, sis.

Your logo and colours on pretty graphics etc are the superficial things that might initially attract people to your brand but your content is what will make people stick around and, ultimately, want to work with you. This is why brand clarity is so important- it ensures that you not only attract leads but can retain them and convert them to customers.

This is also why it's super important to make sure that you don't make these 2 brand clarity mistakes:

How to have a Successful New Year

How to have a Successful New Year

Last week we talked about 3 disempowering life and business beliefs

Remember that, sis?

As we stand at the beginning of a new year, I think it’s important that we discuss how to make it a success

If you’re anything like me, you’ve entered this year with a set of goals and things that you would like to achieve

Here are 4 lessons that we can learn from the widow in 2nd Kings 4:1-7 about how we can do that:

Lessons from Esther on the difference between influence and manipulation

Lessons from Esther on the difference between influence and manipulation

Last week we talked about the importance of giving before you get when it comes to leveraging our relationships through networking

This was something that Esther did with the King by throwing him 2 wine banquets before she so much as broached the subject of saving her people. Click here if you missed that, sis

Which is known as harnessing the law of reciprocity

Here’s the thing, though…

There is a thin line between harnessing the law of reciprocity and being manipulative

Which is yet another reason that networking gets the reputation of being icky and gross

Here are some key differences between the 2:

Lessons from Esther on what to do when you're feeling discouraged

Lessons from Esther on what to do when you're feeling discouraged

Last week, I talked about the fact that Esther is a popular woman of the Bible

Especially amongst the ladies that I have interviewed as guest experts within my Facebook group

This is because she used her power, privilege and position in service of her people

Reminding us as modern women that:

1. God made us for a purpose

2. We are called to solve problems

3. The problems you are called to solve will require using your gifts

4. Maximum impact will require maximum visibility

When thinking about Esther and her legacy it can be easy to forget all that it took for her to become so well renowned

For example, Esther 2:12 says that before she became queen she (and the other prospects) had to:

• Stay in the palace for a full year away from their family and friends

• Undergo beauty treatments

• Learn protocol etc

Before they even so much as a met the king, let alone got chosen to be his bride!

I say all of that to say, it can be easy to become discouraged in our own journeys

It can be easy to see what other people have achieved/are achieving and develop a mean case of comparisonitis

It can be easy to become discouraged at your (seeming) lack of progress

It can also be easy to feel things are taking too long

But Esther's story teaches us not to

In fact…

Lessons from Sarah on How to Keep from Giving Up

Lessons from Sarah on How to Keep from Giving Up

One of the biggest lessons that we learned from the last few weeks of studying Ruth is that there are life and business goals that don’t happen without other people’s say so

For example, when it comes to PR, you can’t get featured unless someone accepts your proposal or pitch- just as Boaz did for Ruth all those years ago.

The issue is that sometimes the road to achieving your goals and dreams is by no means easy or linear

To the point that we can feel like our efforts are futile

But how can we keep from giving up when the going gets tough?

Well, there are 2 main steps which we see really clearly outlined in the events of Sarah’s life- as detailed in the video below.

SOUND GOOD LOVELY?

Great! Do whatever it is that you need to do to get comfortable so you can watch and enjoy the video below.

Lessons from Ruth on How to Network Horizontally

Lessons from Ruth on How to Network Horizontally

As I recently shared via Facebook and Instagram:

One of the common misconceptions about networking is that we should be approaching the top dogs or celebrities of our industry so that they can put us on

That being the case, no wonder so many people find it intimidating!

To quote Issa Rae, though, it's not about "networking up" (although I do believe this has its place). It's about looking at "who's next to you" and "networking across".

In other words, it’s about networking horizontally or with your peers.

Upon exploring Ruth’s life, we see that she is the perfect illustration of this very concept

For example…
