Bathsheba makes her debut in the Bible in 2nd Samuel 11. To summarise the chapter, for those who don’t know the story, she is the lady that beguiled King David with her beauty as he spied on her while she bathed. This led him to summon her and sleep with her despite the fact that he knew she was married to Uriah, who actually also happened to be one of his loyal soldiers. As a result of this Bathsheba became pregnant, causing David to panic. At first he tried to pass the baby off as Uriah’s but when that plan failed, he arranged for him to be killed in battle. Given this whole scandalous affair, Bathsheba- like Potiphar’s wife, Lot’s wife and Achsah- is typically perceived as one of the women of ill repute featured in the Bible. However, be that as it may, she played an extremely important role in history and has much to teach us on the concept of “persevering in purpose”.

Today's interview comes from the lovely Simisola Rasheed- vlogger from the YouTube series "Courtship and Beyond," where she encourages people that God's standard for relationships and marriage is attainable. In line with this she has a very interesting perspective on Sarah (her favourite woman of the Bible) and what we stand to learn from her on the subject of submission both to God and the vision that He has given (our) husbands:
The Bible is rife with nameless people. This is because during the time that it was written, it was mainly people of high social standing that were referred to by their actual titles in text. Such standing did not just come as a result of money, for example, but also gender biases because women were considered to be beneath men at the time. As a result, quite a few of the females featured in the Bible have no name. Examples of this are captured in the Bible’s narrative on people like Potiphar’s wife and Lot’s wife, and can also be seen within the story of “The Widow’s Mite” (in which we are only told about the lady’s lowly social status and nothing else, including her name). Despite this, this lady’s position in history has been elevated because Jesus chose to use her actions as a teaching opportunity. Let’s see what this was!

After years of abuse, neglect and emotional torture I believed the lie that was given to me and fed on it for more than 30 years- much of it since the age of 4 or 5 years old.
