Why goals are important for PR Success

On Christmas eve I got hit by a car

This one to be precise:

Luckily I was okay and the only sign that anything even happened is this scar on my elbow

But the fact that he made enough impact to make me roll onto the hood and then onto the floor makes me truly thankful that it wasn't any worse

Because, as one of the witnesses said afterwards, I "could have ended the night on a stretcher" and- if not for God's favour and protection- who's to say whether that would have been because of a broken bone or fatality?

See, what had happened prior to that was....I spent a lovely evening with my close friend (and the mother of my godson), Eunice- catching up, reflecting on the year and sharing our 2022 goals over dinner

It had rained all day and not stopped by the end of our meal; so we tried to call Ubers. But, whereas Eunice got an Uber relatively quickly, no-one seemed to want to go as far as my mum's side of London (where I would be spending Christmas); so we parted ways

She carried on waiting for her car, which was now 3 minutes away, while I made my way to the train station

Long story short, I came to a crossing; saw that there was nothing coming and began to cross the road to get to the station

I was walking faster than the other people that had been on the pavement with me because I wanted to get out of the rain (I thought I'd be getting a taxi; so hadn't bought an umbrella). That's how I ended up in front of everyone else crossing and the only person hit. But, I digress...

I looked to my right and noticed that a car was turning but, since by that time I was literally in the middle of the road, I paid it no mind because I assumed that he saw me and would stop

Needless to say, he didn't

The next thing I know, I catch a glimpse of the car right next to me out of the corner of my eye and I'm hit and on the ground before I can react

The next thing I then remember is getting up and everyone, including me, being shocked that I was okay

The driver came out to see if I was okay too and apologised profusely

I was shaking out of shock but I knew that I was; so after taking a picture of his license plate and swapping numbers (just in case I wasn't okay later, as advised by the witnesses)- I continued to the station and got on the train. Sis, I swear other passengers must've thought that I was either on drugs or mad because I spent the entire journey either staring ahead in disbelief or patting myself down thinking "I just got hit by a car...and I'm okay..."

Cut to about an hour later, when I came out of the underground and got my signal back, Mohamadu (the driver) called to check up on me

I assured him again that I was fine but, now that I was finally able to think straight, I asked him "What happened, man, didn't you see me?!"

He then apologised even more again and admitted: "I don't know what happened. I didn't see you..."

And then went on to state that this has never happened to him before- blah, blah, blah

As I said before, I was in the middle of the road so there's no reason that, that should have been the case

So, my only conclusion is that he hit me because of negligence and lack of focus, which brings me on to the topic of goals...

In Earl Nightingale's 1956 recording of "The Strangest Secret," he gives a similar example of what happens when nobody controls a vehicle

This is summarised below:

"Think of a ship... [with] no aiming point, no goal, and no destination. We just start the engines and let it go. I think you’ll agree with me that if it gets out of the harbour at all, it will either sink or wind up on some deserted beach, a derelict [that] can’t go any place because it has no destination and no guidance".

He then goes on to say that unlike Mohamadu's car and the boat in this analogy, people "succeed because they know where they’re going"

And they know where they're going because they have goals.

PR is no different, sis

Which is why if you really want to reap the benefits of PR this year, you'll be sure to goal set and start with the end in mind.

Not sure how?

No worries! I'll be breaking it all down next week
