3 Common myths that stop people getting started with PR

When I first started this blog in 2016, I believed the old adage: "If you build it, they will come".

However- fast forward to 2017- I soon realised that, that was a lie.

The truth is, I built it and (close to) no one came!

I was a best kept secret.

Luckily, since then, I have been able to pull myself out of that rut....

I'm now an award winning content marketer, copywriter, PR specialist, international speaker and author who has been featured on over 50 platforms, including Thrive Global, The TEDx blog, HuffPost, Bustle, Relevant Magazine, Radiant Health Magazine, Premier Radio, Mic and more

And use my experience and expertise to help others do the same...

Like Denisha:

Going through this experience, as well as working with my clients, has definitely made me aware that I was not alone in that belief, though

In fact...

I've come to realise that there are 3 common myths that stop people from pursuing PR

Including:

#1 If you build it, they will come

As I alluded to earlier- Hollywood lied! People don’t flock to things if they don’t know that it exists. So, every day that you spend waiting for clients or customers to come to you is a day that you miss out on creating more impact, helping more people and ultimately making more money. If you want to rise above the sea of other experts in your oversaturated niche, you’ll need to attract more attention to you and your brand by becoming more visible.

#2 Social media is enough to help me become more visible

While social media is great for building know, like and trust, that pesky algorithm limits the reach of your posts- making it almost impossible to get in front of your ideal client or customer without spending your money on ads. That’s alright…if you’re tech savvy and know what you’re doing…but if you don’t? It’s hella confusing and akin to sinking your money into a pit.

#3 PR is only for people that are already poppin'

You’ve seen the experts in your industry remain booked, busy and making bank by appearing on platforms like TED, Forbes and HuffPost; so now you believe that PR is only for an elite, right? WRONG! You don’t have to be a mainstream star or one of your industry celebrities to get press coverage but you CAN get that kind of authority, credibility and visibility when you know how to get the ball rolling with pitching to the media.
