How to position yourself for success when pitching

I recently had the pleasure of being a guest on the “6-Figure Secrets Podcast (hosted by Allison Hardy)
Which you can listen to here

One of the questions she asked me was “What are the mistakes that people tend to make when they are pitching?”
Well...

The biggest mistake I’ve seen is a topic I’ve written about in previous blogs: positioning
Here's what I mean 👇🏾

People tend to think that the best way to get on a podcast or to have an article featured is to show off their expertise
While this is true...

This doesn’t require you to dedicate paragraphs upon paragraphs in your pitch detailing every single achievement, title, or qualification
A good pitch is short and snappy- recognising that the people reading them and deciding if they should feature you on their platform are inundated with pitches

Instead of writing a pitch that’s all about you, your skills, and your expertise, spend the majority of your pitch talking about how you can be an asset to their audience and how what you have to say would serve them

This makes it very clear to the editor, podcast host, or influencer who is reading your pitch that you are not only an expert, but you can serve their audience because, ultimately, your guest appearance or your feature needs to be mutually beneficial

So, the next time you write a pitch, think about how you can serve the audience on that platform and not how being featured will serve you

Then you'll position yourself into a win-win; no-brainer scenario for both you and the editor/influencer deciding whether to feature you or not
