I found this year’s International Women’s Day theme so interesting
Do you know what it was?
It was “Give to gain”
This was interesting to me because:
It reminded me of 2 things:
#1 The lyrics to the song at the end of, the musical, Bugsy Malone
Which goes:
“You give a little love and it all comes back to you (la, la, la, la, la, la, la)/ You know you’re gonna be remembered for the things that you say and do (la, la, la, la, la, la, la)”
Shout out to you if you know it!
#2 A conversation that I had with a close friend on Saturday
For context- She recently started a charity (or non-profit); has already gone to Ghana and forged some great connections and is now about to go to South Africa
We were talking about how God can give you these visions that are bigger than you (causing you to have to be more visible and speak up in order to make more impact) but then, of course, things like fear, imposter syndrome and insecurity can start to set in
Can you relate?
The reason why that has come to mind for me is because I think that stops a lot of women giving to gain
But, as the song I mentioned earlier says, “You give a little love and it all comes back to you… you’re gonna be remembered for the things that you say and do”
All of us want to have these legacies where we make impact, where we change people’s lives, where we get to birth and manifest the things that have been put inside of us- but the limiting beliefs I mentioned earlier stop us
The result?
We don’t give
Of our:
Wisdom
Knowledge
Experiences
and don’t get to help the people that we have been called to so that they can get the breakthroughs that only we are uniquely gifted to give them
So no-one gains
I know, from personal experience, those limiting beliefs and insecurities never go away but it’s by continuing to give
i.e. show up, spread your message and make impact
Despite those things that you get
More comfortable
Confident
Used to spreading your message
To build a legacy that allows you to be remembered for the things that you say and do (in the way that you actually want to be)
All of that to say, International Women’s Day had a beautiful theme but:
Are you living up to it?
What is holding you back from doing so if not?
What will you do to overcome those things to make sure you do from now on?
