Finding the Glory in Your Trubulations

Lessons from Jesus' Donkey on how to handle the weight of glory on your life

Lessons from Jesus' Donkey on how to handle the weight of glory on your life

Matthew 21:1-9 tells the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey just before His death. In verse 8-9, we are told that when the people Jerusalem saw Him they:

“spread their clothes on the road… cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. [They also] cried out, saying: ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!’”

The branches that the people used were from palm trees- hence the reason why we celebrate this day as “Palm Sunday”.

Often, when I’ve heard this story told from the point of view of the donkey, one of the things that’s brought up is how lucky she was to have carried Jesus (yes, according to Matthew 21:2, the donkey was female).

But, if I’m honest, when I read it I started thinking about the fact that:

  • As much as carrying Jesus could have been considered the epitome of her donkey career- He was still a weight

  • Her greatest success was also a great burden and so-

  • It costs to have a calling on your life

I was also able to extract 5 lessons that she teaches us, as modern women, about how to handle this effectively. I shared all of this and more on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

Lessons from The Woman with the Issue of Blood on how your test is your testimony

Lessons from The Woman with the Issue of Blood on how your test is your testimony

When I did my Stuck to Savvy challenge live a few weeks ago, I did a lot of talking about The Woman with the Issue of Blood because- having had a gynecological issue that caused her to bleed for 12 years before Jesus healed her- she is a prime example of somebody who was "stuck".

On continuing to reflect upon her story, though, I realised that the events of her life don't just demonstrate what is means to be stuck and then set free- she also demonstrates that our adversities are actually here to serve us. In fact, our test is our testimony is 3 main ways- all of which I shared on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

What to do when all hell breaks loose (the birthing process)

What to do when all hell breaks loose (the birthing process)

Today's devotional is different in that rather than basing my musings on a particular woman of the Bible, I will be speaking on a an experience that is unique to women- giving birth.

Whilst this process is understood as a natural or physical (reproductive) process, today I am going to be speaking about the process of giving birth to our spiritual children or brainchildren (ideas, goals, dreams, vision).

"What got you thinking along these lines, Nina?"

Glad you asked...

Lessons from Naomi on Imposter Syndrome and How to Overcome It

Lessons from Naomi on Imposter Syndrome and How to Overcome It

Last Sunday, we discussed what Naomi can teach us about:

  • Fear of failure
  • How to overcome it

In that devotional, I particularly focused on Ruth 1:20-21 which says:

But she said to them, “Do not call me Naomi [meaning "pleasant"] call me Mara [meaning "bitter"] for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full, and the Lord has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the Lord has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?”

On inspecting that scripture further, I realised that it didn't just:

  1. Speak of Naomi's mindset
  2. Give insight about the fear of failure and how it works, as I said last week

But it also gives us some insight into imposter syndrome- all of which I shared on my Facebook page this week via the (live) video below.

Here's a little bit of what you can expect in terms of:

TOPICS DISCUSSED

  • What imposter syndrome is and why it seems to affect women more than men
  • How imposter syndrome causes us to act like Naomi in "changing our names"
  • 3 practical; actionable tips for overcoming imposter syndrome today
  • And much more!

SOUND GOOD, LOVELY?

Lessons from 30 amazing Women of the Bible

Lessons from 30 amazing Women of the Bible

This week (October 3rd to be exact) was my birthday and- it wasn't just any birthday- it was my 30th! Also, although I didn't actually make it public until late November, this month will mark a year since I started this blog with a view to:

  • Raise the profile of the contributions of the women of the Bible and how the lessons contained in these can be practically applied in our modern spiritual walks
  • Empower Christian women to fully embrace their unique identities and purpose in Christ, free of the stereotypes and traditions that can "so easily best" us

To celebrate, I am going to share my top 30 women of the Bible along with what they taught me either about Christian womanhood/femininity or life in general. So, in alphabetical order, here goes!
